A half-breed born from the union between dragon and human, Shyvana searched all her life for belonging. Persecution forged her into a brutal warrior, and those who dare stand against Shyvana face the fiery beast lurking just beneath her skin.

Dragonkind considered Shyvana's impure blood an abomination, and she spent her youth pursued relentlessly by one cruel drake. Constantly on the run, she and her father, an outcast dragon, never knew a lasting home. A brutal reflection of countless battles, Shyvana grew hateful and savage. After years of strife, her father finally fell to the other dragon, but not before gravely wounding his foe. Furious with grief, Shyvana pursued her father's murderer as he fled north to recover. There she encountered a group of humans on the trail of the same drake. Though the men looked upon her in fear, their leader approached Shyvana peacefully. He introduced himself as Jarvan IV, the Prince of Demacia, and offered to aid Shyvana in her quest for vengeance. Together they hunted down and confronted the vicious dragon that had slain her father. Shyvana did not expect the men to survive, but in the clash of fire and steel, Jarvan and his men fought with strength she had never believed humans to possess. The ironclad warriors drove their foe into submission, and Shyvana struck the final blow, tearing the beast's heart from its body. Inspired by her ferocity, Jarvan offered her a place in the ranks of his elite guard. Shyvana could still see fear in the eyes of his men, but she longed for a true home. Trusting Jarvan's word, she accepted his offer and now serves as a Demacian warrior. Though her human allies admire her power, they keep their distance. Shyvana strives to repay the prince's kindness with the power of the dragon within, but she cannot help but wonder if the humans are right to fear her.

"I have proven my might to dragonkind - what challenge shall humans pose?"

-  Shyvana

Half-Dragons are the forbidden scions of humans and shape-shifting dragons. There have been few in the world, as they are typically hunted down by their draconian relatives. The scarce and reclusive dragons left on Runeterra find it disgusting to mix their blood with the frivolous and violent lesser races. However, there are those who become fascinated with humans, such as Shyvana's father. It was to Prince Jarvan IV's surprise when his hunt led him to a legendary young half-dragon. She wept over the dead, mutilated corpse of her father, murdered for her existence. Something in Jarvan was moved by Shyvana's plight. Together they plotted revenge against the mighty dragon responsible. The assault cost the Demacian Prince many men, and nearly his life, but ultimately Shyvana and he prevailed.

The experience changed the both of them. Shyvana lost her place in the world, left alone to be hunted by those dragons who discovered her existence. Because of what he'd seen, Jarvan lost his taste for the hunt and wished to return home as protector of his people. Jarvan IV, as Crown Prince of Demacia, offered Shyvana a place as a noble warrior in the ranks of the elite guard. Out of gratitude and necessity, she accepted. Since their return to Demacia, Shyvana has proven herself to be a fierce and powerful soldier. She blends her fiery draconian blood with her adopted principles of justice. She revels in the power she now feels in the human world and there are few who do not quake before her in combat. However, by and large there remains only one place for glorious battle. When Jarvan joined the League of Legends, it wasn't long before Shyvana answered the call as well.

"I have the blood of dragons in my veins. I am fear to all who oppose me."

-  Shyvana

There are those few dragons in Runeterra who have mastered the intense magical energies that course through their unique anatomies, evolving into an elusive Celestial Dragon. These powerful and enigmatic creatures spend most of their time hidden away from the lands of men. However, there are those who find themselves drawn to civilization and who take on human forms to immerse themselves in the world of humans. Occasionally, one finds itself drawn to the spirit of a human and they have relations. Sometimes, in the slimmest of odds, the union will bear fruit and that offspring will be one of the few half-dragons to have graced Runeterra. Shyvana is one such creature, born to a simple Demacian farm-girl and her Celestial Dragon father. Left to be raised by her mother, her oddities were something that couldn't be hidden from her community, though she was protected by her family. Once her family had perished in disaster, she was left alone for the first time - truly alone. Shyvana quickly became an outsider and it wasn't long before the community's fear began to put her in danger. Facing mortal danger at the business end of an angry mob, she was rescued by the traveling noble, Jarvan Lightshield. The noble was a man who strangely knew exactly what she was and took her under his wing. It wasn't long before she was offered a chance to use her natural skills in the service of Demacia, as Jarvan initiated her as one of the elite guard. Following Jarvan into the League of Legends was only natural.

Shyvana is a fierce warrior, with the blood of one of the most powerful magical predators in all creation flowing through her veins. Unlike some of her fellows, she is a subdued personality - somber, cool, and collected. However, when the moment strikes, her draconian heritage manifests and there are few that can stare her in the eyes and not feel the primal urge to flee.

"By the blood of my father, I will end you!"

Abilities

Shyvana's abilities don't have any cost related to them, so the use of her abilities is only limited by cooldowns. Instead she uses fury as her secondary bar.

Fury is only needed as a requirement for the use of her ultimate, which allows her to change form if she has 100 fury and remain in that state for as long as she has enough fury. Shyvana won't generate fury unless she has at least one point in Dragon's Descent, and once she puts the first point on the skill she will fill the bar immediately. Any gained fury will not be lost until her ultimate is used.

PassiveFury of the Dragonborn
Dragonborn.png
(Innate) Gains 5 Armor and Magic Resist. Shyvana deals 10% more damage to elemental drakes (including Elder Dragon). For each elemental killed, she gains an extra 5.

QTwin BiteBanshee's Veil.png
Twin Bite.png
(Active) Shyvana's next autoattack will strike twice in one swift movement. The second attack will deal physical damage equal to a percentage of her total attack damage. Both attacks will trigger on-hit effects and Fury of the Dragonborn effects. Each auto attack reduces the cooldown by 0.5 seconds. This doesn't work on structures.

Dragon Form: Twin Bite will damage all units in front of Shyvana when she uses her next autoattack instead of just her target. Each unit hit will be dealt on-hit effects and grant fury twice.
Cooldown: 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 seconds
Second Strike Physical Damage: (40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100% of total Attack Damage)

WBurnoutBanshee's Veil Grey.png
Burnout.png
(Active) Shyvana deals magic damage per second to nearby enemies and gains bonus Movement Speed that decays over 3 seconds.

While Burnout is active, basics attacks deal 25% of Burnout's damage to nearby enemies and extends its duration by 1 second (max 7 seconds).

Dragon Form: Burnout scorches the earth, continuing to damage enmies that stand on it.

Cooldown: 12 seconds
Radius of AoE: 350 / 365 / 380 at rank 1 / 2 / 3 of Dragon's Descent.
Magic Damage per Second: 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80

Dragon Form: Flame Breath engulfs all units in a cone in front of Shyvana.

Range: 925

RDragon's DescentBanshee's Veil.png
Dragon's Descent.png
(Active) Shyvana transforms into a dragon and dashes to a target location. Enemies along her path take magic damage and are pushed toward her target location.

This ability has no cooldown but requires 100 fury to activate. Shyvana generates fury every 1.5 seconds while in human form. While in dragon form, she will lose 5 fury every second. Once the fury bar is empty she will return to her normal state. Each of her autottacks will generate 2 fury. This will allow for Shyvana to prolong the duration of dragon form by attacking. This ability works on structures.
Range: 1000
Magic Damage: 175 / 300 / 425
(+70% of Ability Power)
Passive Fury Gain: 1 / 2 / 3 per 1.5 seconds

Patch History

v6.10

W has an AP ratio.

Pretty much the same thing as Nocturne’s context. Re-read that but pretend we said ‘Shyvana’ instead.

Burnout.png W - Burnout

NEW RATIO : Now additionally scales with 0.1 ability power per second
NEW RATIO ON-HIT : Now additionally scales with 0.025 ability power on-hit

v6.6
Q's scaling reduced at early levels.

Shyvana’s too strong. So what are we going to do about it?

While the below changes might not look like much for anyone that’s been mauled by the half-dragon lately, Shyvana is a champion that we define as high-variance. That is to say ‘She’s okay to rampage through a neighboring lane (or village) because Shyvana can’t do that every game’. This isn’t just about risk vs reward or winrates - variance is the other side of the coin of reliability, describing a champion’s spread of being able to achieve certain outputs over time. To break that down, let’s use examples. Amumu can sometimes land 5-man ultimates - or he can whiff entirely - creating a high variance champion. By contrast, let’s look at Kayle’s Righteous Fury. No matter what you do, it’s always going to give you a buff to your range. Does what it says. There’s still some variance at play (was this the right time to use it?), but it’s pretty low-variance overall.

So what does this have to do with Shyvana? Well, ability usage (input) isn’t the only thing that can be high-variance. Champions that are more linear have variance in their output instead. For every game where Volibear was allowed to speed racer his way to the backline and flip tables, he’s also had games where he’s been kited to the moon and denied every opportunity. Shyvana’s variance comes from ‘was she starved on gold or did she literally eat your entire jungle?’

For those of you who have fought against Shyvana recently, the answer is almost always ‘she literally ate my entire jungle.’ (And your bottom laners. Sorry you had to find out this way.)

The below changes (combined with Titanic Hydra’s changes further down) represent our viewpoint that to attack Shyvana’s power level, we have to affect that variance. Lowering her damage in the early stages, especially when dueling champions, should see a stunt in that growth from ‘always on’ to ‘sometimes on’ as her opponents seek to close the gaps in her flame horizon.

v5.23
Attack Range Changes
A few champions are getting increased range. Except Nunu and Tahm Kench. You know what you did.

With preseason being the time to dig deep and reevaluate assumptions, we finally started looking at attack ranges as a stat for tuning rather than just something we did simply because characters have polearms. This is only a first pass as we start to think of melee attack ranges as in 'tiers', first of 125 and 175, but possibly even up to 225! This means a few bonuses to range for some champions that have trouble movin' around in combat or just needed the love. We'll be back relatively soon for a follow-up, but at least now Trundle won't look so goofy as he punches you with his enormous iceclub.

MEGA GNAR ATTACK RANGE : 150 175

v5.11
W gives Shyvana stronger basic attacks for its duration.

"Despite a brief spark in competitive play via Cinderhulk/Skirmisher's Sabre, Shyvana remains a champion that feels left behind. We're loading her up with more basic-attack beatdowns when Burnout is active to reinforce her melee moshing and make you feel better when diving in for the kill."
  • Burnout.png W - Burnout
    • BURNING FINGER : Now does 25% of Burnout's AoE damage per basic attack for the duration (still does AoE magic damage per second)
    • BUGFIX : Fixed a bug where Burnout had twice its bonus attack damage ratio only while in Dragon Form

v5.8
Mass Texture Rebalance (Part 10)

"With this last bundle of champions, the "Mass" part of our Texture Rebalancing has been completed. That doesn't mean we'll never update a texture again - we'll continue to do so as opportunities arise - but this is the end of seeing these as a major patch note item. Thank you everyone for your continued feedback!"
"For those interested in final numbers, these ten installments have rebalanced around 311 skins across 62 champions over 7 months (we started back in patch 4.17)!"
  •  Lux
    • Base, Commando, Imperial, Sorceress, Spellthief, Steel Legion
  •  Nocturne
    • Ravager (update to a previous rebalance)
  •  Poppy
    • Base, Battle Regalia, Blacksmith, Lollipoppy, Noxus, Ragdoll, Scarlet Hammer
  •  Shaco
    • Base, Asylum, Nutcracko, Mad Hatter, Roya, Workshop
    • Base Jack-In-The-Boxes have also been updated for all skins that use them
  •  Shyvana
    • Base, Boneclaw, Darkflame, Ironscale
  •  Teemo
    • Base, Astronaut, Badger, Cottontail, Happy Elf, Panda, Recon, Super
    • Base mushrooms (for all skins that use them) and custom mushrooms for Astronaut, Panda and Super skins have also been updated

v5.5 E's damage proc up!

"When looking to punch Shyvana's ticket aboard the Buff Barge, we decided a more general boost to her effectiveness would suffice. Often used for her mixed-damage and innate defensive stats, we like Shy most when she actually has to punch the stuffing out of you to win fights - so that's exactly what we're reinforcing here!"
  • Flame Breath.png E - Flame Breath
    • BONUS DAMAGE AGAINST MARKED TARGETS : 2% maximum health per autoattack 2.5% maximum health per autoattack

v5.1

"We're making readability improvements to a bunch of the champion portrait icons which were added or updated over the past few months."
  • PORTRAITS : The following champion portrait icons have been updated:
    • Azir, Cho'Gath, Ezreal, Gragas, Graves, Janna, Jarvan IV, Kayle, Kog'Maw, Lee Sin, Malphite, Maokai, Orianna, Renekton, Rengar, Rumble, Shyvana, Sion, Talon, Tristana, Udyr, Vayne, Veigar, Viktor, Zilean

v4.21
Twin Bite has a slightly lower cooldown and Burnout now deals bonus damage to monsters.

"In light of her recent exit from popularity, Shyvana's a character that's been left without a clear identity. Is she a human? Is she a dragon? Is she viable? Leaning on her original jungling roots, we've decided to boost Shyv's clearing speeds so that she can be one of the faster farmers out there, opening her up to make cooler decisions than just shoving in top-laners and living forever."
  • Twin Bite.png Q - Twin Bite
    • COOLDOWN : 10/9/8/7/6 seconds 9/8/7/6/5 seconds
  • Burnout.png W - Burnout
    • [NEW] MONSTER MASHING : Burnout now now deals +20% bonus damage to monsters
    • IT'S COMPLICATED : Fixed a bug where Burnout was scaling incorrectly with attack damage when Shyvana was in her dragon form

v4.15

"While we realize this is a small power reduction, we had the choice of either buffing Shyvana's late ranks in damage or just reducing her level 1 damage by 20."
  • FlameBreath.jpg E - Flame Breath
    • SORRY SHYVANA Fixed a bug where Flame Breath was dealing an extra 20 damage at Rank 1. Shyvana's damage now accurately reflects the tooltip (at 60 damage).
    • VISUALS Adjusted Flame Breath's dragon form particles to better match the damage cone. Actual area of effect remains unchanged.

Updated Splashes

"As we've mentioned previously, the splash art team is engaged in a long-term effort to update our oldest base splashes. We've got a few more fresh updates for this patch. "
  • SPLASH The following champions have received updated base splashes (click the portraits for the full image!):

v4.13
Shyvana can't double her W duration through dragon form, and her flame trail now applies damage less often (on par with W's damage tick rate)

"While we didn't want to make significant changes to Shyvana, we did make two bugfixes which should tame some of her more obscure strength."
  • Burnout.jpg W - Burnout
    • REMOVED DRAGON TAMING Burnout can no longer be extended past its intended maximum duration through the use of Dragon's Descent
    • CONTROLLED FIRE Dragon's Descent's Flame Trail now applies damage every 0.75 seconds ⇒ 1.0 seconds (to match Burnout's damage rate)

v4.11
"This might be a nerf (or buff if you enjoy eating skill shots) to the following champions, but we want to ensure for the sake of clarity that their hitboxes always match their visual representation."

  • HITBOX: The following champions had smaller than average hitboxes so we've increased them to the average hitbox size. In other words, we've added 27.3% Teemos to each champion's overall hitbox (from 50 units all around to 65 units all around) but there should be no visual change:

v4.1 Summary: We’re lowering Burnout’s overall damage and Flame Breath’s damage at earlier levels. Dragon’s Descent also received a bug fix and the damage now matches the tooltip.

Shyvana’s doing a lot of damage in the early to mid-game, even when she builds tanky. It turns out that when Shyvana can push, wave clear and out-trade opponents all at once, things can get a little frustrating. We’re cooling some of that dragon blood down to make her early bullying more manageable.

  • Burnout.jpg W - Burnout
    • Damage per second reduced to 20/35/50/65/80 (from 25/40/55/70/85)
    • Minimum magic damage reduced to 60/105/150/195/240 (from 75/120/165/210/255)
    • Maximum magic damage reduced to 140/245/350/455/560 (from 175/280/385/490/595)

  • DragonsDescent.jpg R - Dragon's Descent
    • Damage now correctly matches the tooltip at 175/300/425 (from 200/300/400)

v3.15

  • E - Flame Breath
    • Fixed a bug where Flame Breath was shredding armor in Dragon Form

v3.09
We're repositioning Flame Breath as a core tool for objective control and faster jungle clear, while also emphasizing its use as a “burn down” ability to be followed up with auto attacks against tankier fighters. We've also fixed a long-standing bug with Shyvana's Burnout where it wasn't scaling with attack damage while in Dragon form. This fix - along with her increased fury gains and reduced fury decay – will help her in late game teamfights. Lastly, we've moved the descriptions of her previous passive effects to their new ability tooltips to help centralize information.

  • Fury of the Dragonborn - Remade. All Fury of the Dragonborn effects have been moved to their respective abilities.
  • Dragonborn - Gains 5/10/15/20 Armor and Magic Resist. These bonuses are doubled in Dragon Form.
  • Flame Breath
    • No longer reduces Armor by 15%
    • Now passes through all units hit instead of stopping at the first
    • Debuff duration increased to 5 seconds from 4
    • Damage reduced to 80/115/150/185/220 from 80/125/170/215/260
    • On-hit magic damage to debuffed targets changed to 2% of the target's maximum Health from 15% of Flame Breath's damage (12/18.75/25.5/32.25/39 + 0.09 Ability Power).
  • Burnout
    • Fixed a bug where Burnout wasn't scaling with attack damage when Shyvana was in Dragon form
  • Dragon's Descent
    • Passive Armor/Magic Resistance component removed
    • Passive Fury Gain increased to 1/2/3 per 1.5 seconds from 1/1/1

  • Fixed a bug that caused Burnout to last longer than intended
  • Dragon's Descent passive armor and magic resist bonus reduced to 10 / 15 / 20 from 15 / 20 / 25

v1.0.0.134
