Unicorns of Love is a professional League of Legends team based in Europe. On June 13th, 2018, the organization announced the line-up of an academy team, named Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition [1]

History

2014 Season

Unicorns of Love won several Go4LoL tournaments in early 2014 on the EU West server. As the year progressed, they started to play in more prominent challenger events and do well, taking third place in the Summer Black Monster Cup. They participated in the first Spring Series #1 play-in but were eliminated by EYES ON U in the second round.

On May 15th, PowerOfEvil joined the team as the new midlaner, replacing Xodiaz, and the team qualified for the Summer Series #1 of the EUCS, though they lost to Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

After another quarterfinal finish in Summer Series #2, UoL placed 6th in the Points ranking shared with Playing Ducks. However, because only either of them could advance to the Summer Playoffs, the teams had to play a tiebreaker match, which UoL won 2-0 to eventually take the last spot.

With Gilius now subbing for Dan, the playoffs went particularly well, despite the Unicorns of Love losing to H2k-Gaming in the semifinal. The team went on to beat Ninjas in Pyjamas in the 3rd place match, securing themselves a spot at the Spring Promotion Tournament. At this point, Gilius was made a full member of the UoL roster.[2]

With the Promotion Tournament came a chance for the Unicorns of Love to qualify for the 2015 LCS Spring Split. The Promotion Tournament was a huge success, with the team beating Millenium 3-2 in their promotion matchup. This meant that they would be playing in the LCS the following season.

2015 Season

Unicorns of Love were the European team fan-voted to IEM San Jose, their first event with their new jungler, Kikis.[3] The team surprised audiences by making it to the semifinals of the tournament after defeating Lyon Gaming 2-0 and then Team SoloMid 2-0, with Kikis pulling off jungle  Twisted Fate and a stunning performance on  Syndra from PowerOfEvil. They placed 2nd at the tournament, losing to Cloud9 in the finals.

The EU LCS Spring Season was a huge success for Unicorns Of Love, finishing the regular season in 5th place, partly thanks to PowerOfEvil's impressive performances throughout the split, which earned him 2 Weekly MVP awards. This meant that team would participate in the Spring Playoffs, where they would face and beat Gambit Gaming in the quarterfinals. Hylissang and the team managed to make LCS history when they became the first team to knock out a 1st place regular season finisher in the playoff semifinals, taking down SK Gaming convincingly. They went on to lose the playoff final to Fnatic in a close-fought series, finishing 2nd in their first LCS split, and picking up 70 Championship Points in the process.

The Summer Season was equally as successful for Unicorns Of Love, despite the mid-season departure of Kikis. They finished the regular season in 4th place with Gilius in the jungle, ensuring the team's participation in the Summer Playoffs. After the close of the regular season, they announced H0R0 as their new starting jungler. In the playoffs, the team overcame Team ROCCAT in the quarterfinals but were taken out themselves in the semifinals by a dominant Fnatic. 40 Championship Points gained here secured Unicorns Of Love a spot in the 2015 Season Europe Regional Finals. A high seeding meant that the team would start in the final of the gauntlet, where they met and were beaten convincingly by Origen.

2016 Season

After Fnatic withdrew from IEM San Jose due to medical problems, Unicorns of Love took their spot, fielding Hylissang and Vizicsacsi from their 2015 roster along with new members Gilius, Fox, and Steeelback. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the by Counter Logic Gaming, losing 2-0. After IEM, former Gambit jungler Diamondprox replaced Gilius. After the second week of the LCS, however, Diamondprox was forced to step down as starting jungler due to visa issues. UOL went through two jungle substitutes, Djoko and Rudy, before settling on loulex. They finished in fifth place and then lost in the first round of the playoffs to Origen.

Going into the summer season which features a best of two series format, UOL performed well enough to enter the 2016 EULCS Summer Playoffs. Though they beat out Giants Gaming in the first round 3-1, they were unable to advance to the next round when faced against G2. At the end of the playoffs, UOL was fourth after losing to H2K in the third place match up.

That said, UOL had earned enough circuits points to qualify for the 2016 regional qualifiers for the last spot for 2016 Worlds. In the first two rounds, they easily beat Giants Gaming and Fnatic 3-0 both times. In the final round against Splyce, the team played an exciting 5 game series but narrowly lost out, thus ending their 2016 season.

2017 Season

During the offseason, UOL acquired Xerxe as their new jungler to the starting roster. With the rest of the roster remaining the same, the team once again look to a strong performance during the spring season. Xerxe's mechanical prowess did not disappoint the fans and eventually he was named Rookie of the Split. In their respective Group B, UOL ranked first, having only lost two match throughout the season. This earns the team a bye into the 2017 EULCS Spring Playoffs semifinals.

At the Spring Playoffs, UOL first faced off Misfits whom they easily defeat 3-1 to advance to the finals where they face off against G2. However, the team was only able to secure a single win in a 4 game series, thus ending their spring season in second place.

Without a change in their roster line up, UOL heads into the summer season with great expectation to make it to the Worlds for the first time. Throughout the summer season, the team maintained strong performance by remaining in the top two of their group. Midway through the summer season, UOL was invited to attend the 2017 Rift Rivals/Blue Rift along with G2 and Fnatic. Much to the surprise of the fans and analysts, UOL finished top in their respective group to advance to the finals where they faced Team Solomid. Unfortunately the team failed to secure a single win and placed second in the Rift Rivals. At the end of the summer season, UOL placed second in their group to secure a bye into the quarterfinals of the 2017 EULCS Summer Playoffs

This time however, UOL was unable to secure a single win against Misfits, thus ending their playoff runs at 5-6th place. Still, UOL had enough circuit points to qualify for the 2017 EULCS Regional Finals. There in a thrilling five game series, UOL went toe to toe against H2K. Unfortunately, the team fell short, thus ending their 2017 season run.
