"MaRin" (Real Name: Jang Gyeong-Hwan (장경환)) is a Korean League of Legends player, current Top Laner for Topsports Gaming.

Career History

MaRin started off his career on SK Telecom T1 S. The team was able to get an impressive 2nd place finish at the SK Telecom LTE-A LoL Masters 2014 only losing to Samsung Galaxy in the finals. The team would also participate in the HOT6iX Champions Summer 2014 but they would once again lose 0-3 to Samsung Galaxy, finishing 4th.

In December of 2014, because of changes to the OGN rules, SKT was forced to merge their two teams into one. After Impact left the organization, MaRin was given the starting top lane position. SKT was able to win Champions Spring. Despite a 2nd place finish in the regular season, they would perform really well in the playoffs and defeated the GE Tigers 3-0 in the finals. This would qualify them for the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational. At MSI, SKT finished 1st in groups undefeated with a 5-0 record. In the knock-out stage SKT defeated Fnatic 3-2 in the Semifinals. Facing off against Edward Gaming in the finals, SKT was the favorites going into the match. In a very close and thrilling series, EDG was able to defeat SKT 3-2 to win the MSI crown.

Returning to Korea with a desire to avenge their MSI loss, SKT finished the regular season of Champions Summer in first place with a magnificent 17-1 record, only losing 1 series to CJ Entus. In the playoffs, SKT was automatically placed in the finals due to their seeding. With MaRin's leadership, SKT was able to defeat KT Rolster 3-0 to take their second LCK title in a row. This would also qualify them for the 2015 World Championship.

At Worlds, SKT was placed in Group C along with their MSI rivals Edward Gaming as well as H2k-Gaming and the Bangkok Titans. SKT was able to get their revenge on EDG, beating them twice and going 6-0 in their group. In the quarterfinals, SKT faced off against Ahq e-Sports Club and sweeped them 3-0. They would also sweep Origen 3-0 in the Semifinals. In the finals, they faced off against the KOO Tigers in a rematch of the LCK Spring Playoff finals. KOO was able to win a game (being the only team to do so during the tournament) but SKT would defeat them 3-1, winning Worlds and becoming the first organization to win two World Championships. MaRin was also voted MVP of the tournament for his exceptional play throughout the event.

In the post-season, SKT attended the 2015 LoL KeSPA Cup and in a shocking fashion got defeated 0-2 by Ever in the Semifinals, finishing in 3rd-4th. After winning the 2015 World Championship with SK Telecom T1, it was then announced that MaRin has decided to part ways with the organization. In December 10th, LGD Gaming announced that Marin has joined the team.

Hoping to bounce back from their rough Worlds and post-Worlds performances, LGD would go into LPL Spring with high hopes. Being placed in Group A, LGD struggled in the first several weeks of play. Despite having good players in every position, they struggled to play as a team. In the second half of the season however, they started playing better and bounced back, finishing 4th in their group with an 8-8 record. They would face off against Vici Gaming in Round 1 of the Playoffs but would go on to lose 1-3, finishing the Spring Split in 7th-8th.

In Summer, LGD finished 5th in their group with a 7W-9L record, failing to make it to the Playoffs. The team had to play in the Promotion Tournament as well, which they fortunately won over Newbee (3-1), to secure their spot in 2017 Spring.

During the off season, MaRin decided not to renew his contract with LGD and go back to Korea instead. He then signed with LCK team Afreeca Freecs to play as their starting Top Laner for the 2017 Season, alongside Spirit, Kuro, TuSin, Mowgli and Kramer.

  • Reached rank 1 and 11 in Challenger 1 (KR) on multiple accounts.
  • Known for his plays and roams in the top lane.
